Gorazde: Suspect arrested for the murder of seven Serbs
Police have detained four former fighters suspected of crimes against Bosnian Serbs in the town that saw serious clashes during the war.
The State Investigation and Protection Agency has arrested four former members of the Bosnian Army suspected of taking part in the murders of Bosnian Serbs in the eastern town of Gorazde during the war.
Police named the men as Muhamed Adzem, Suljo Karkelj, Senad Halilovic and Omer Ugljesa and said they were being held in connection with the abuse and killing of three people from Gorazde in 1992.
Prosecutors said they had evidence that the victims were arrested on the Trovrh mountain above the town, brought to Gorazde police station and then abused and killed.
The remains of two of those who died were found during an exhumation at the nearby Perucac lake.
The suspects are the first to be arrested specifically for war crimes committed in Gorazde, which was one of three Bosniak-held enclaves in eastern Bosnia during the war.
After the outbreak of fighting between Bosniaks and Bosnian Serbs, the United Nations declared it a ‘safe haven’.
