In addition to the racist and religious reasons for the persecution of the Serbian people, especially Serbian families who have a developed family business, the occupying authorities in Kosovo and Metohia raided the house of the Serbian winemaker family Petrović from Velika Hoča and confiscated the wine because of a film, shot in their winery, dedicated to the Austrian Nobel laureate Peter Handke, a friend of the Serbian people.

On December 9, 2022, the Albanian police in Kosovo and Metohija seized about 42,000 liters of domestic wine from the winery of the Petrović family from Velika Hoča. Thus ended the two-day drama of the Petrović family, which was under police occupation the whole time. 

The special reason for the persecution of the Petrović family and their winery in Kosovo and Metohija by the occupying authorities is the film „Waiting for Handke„, dedicated to the Austrian Nobel laureate and friend of the Serbs, filmed in Velika Hoča, in the winery of the Petrović family, which talks about Serbian suffering and Serbian historical rights in Kosovo and Metohija. Behind the violence against the Petrović family is the intention to is to punish them for speaking freely to the free serbian media about the suffering of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija.

„The Petrović family is being punished for wanting to put up a plaque with an inscription about Peter Handke at their winery because the Nobel laureate stayed with Petrović several times. The Petrović family is being punished because in the film we visited the Serbian cemetery in nearby Orahovac, where all the tombstones were torn down, including tombstones of those who died in 2017 and 2018! Petrović is being punished because in the film the children sing an ode to Velika Hoča as a symbol of Serbian suffering and identity! Petrović is being punished so that Handke will never drink Hoča white wine again!“, says director Goran Radovanović, who met both Petrović and the residents of Velika Hoča.

The Serbian people in Kosovo suffer violence as during the Ottoman occupation. Тhe seizure of material goods from the winery of the Petrović family is a punishment for freedom of speech about the suffering of the Serbian people, but it is also motivated by the ban on the use of wine as an alcoholic beverage in Islamic countries. However, in addition to imposing Islamic laws on Christians and banning freedom of speech, the reason Albanians confiscated wine from the Petrović winery, among other things, is because Serbian wineries make the best wine in Kosovo and Metohia and Albanian Muslims trade in alcohol despite Islamic laws, while they present themselves to European and American media and officials as modern, and, if it is necessary, as Christians.

The Serbian winery whose wine was confiscated by the Albanians has a tradition of wine production since the medieval Serbian state in Kosovo and Metohia. In the winery of the Petrović family, from which the Albanian police confiscated all the wine produced, there is a part of an archaeological site, unique in the world – a wine pipeline from the time of the medieval Serbian empire of Emperor Dušan. The wine pipeline was built in the 14th century. The wine flowed through a natural fall of 24 kilometers from Velika Hoča to the capital of the medieval Serbian state – Prizren.
